From the second you click the Style.com link to alice + olivia’s 2013 ready-to-wear collection, you’ll notice one major thing: bold colors. When you begin to click through the slideshow, it is clear that when it comes to color, less really is more. Only one or two colors are highlighted in each look, and each piece of the outfit matches perfectly in color and style with the others.
If you’ve ever met me, you’d know that one of my biggest pet peeves is outfits that don’t match. From the day that I was old enough to dress myself, every little detail of my outfits had to match one way or another. Matching is one the simplest things, but makes all of the difference in the world. You may be wearing the cutest dress and shoes, but if they don’t match, you won’t look put together.
Though alice + olivia’s collection consisted of mainly monochromatic outfits, my take on these looks incorporated a slightly larger color scheme, closer to a color-blocking concept. Even with a wider variety of colors included, my outfit matched all the same. I love the combination of pastel colors for summer so I paired my matching statement necklace and earrings with a pink lipstick shade and the base of my outfit, my tiffany blue skater dress. My gold flats and bag coordinated with the gold chain of my jewelry and added a finishing touch to the outfit, causing the colors to pop.
