STYLE GURU STYLE: Monochromatic Cool

You can never go wrong with a black and white outfit. A simple monochromatic outfit gives you the freedom to dress it up or down with a quick switch in details. In college where versatility is highly sought out, monochromatic outfits are key.

Recently, I’ve been feeling inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The collection oozes an edgy vibe with its impeccably styled leather pieces, diminutive use of color and asymmetrical silhouettes. Pulling pieces from my closet that are reminiscent of the collection, I put together a bold yet wearable campus outfit.

I decided to combine two statement pieces of clothing into one outfit. The lack of color in my overall outfit tones down (no pun intended) the usually bold and pieces I own. Given the unpredictable temperature of lecture halls, the leather jacket is both functional and an added touch of edge. The style of my leggings are almost identical to the ones featured in the collection. However, the change in textile from leather to cotton gives some much needed comfort to my look. I completed my outfit with a longer white tee, my backpack and a pair of trendy black booties. I love how these booties give me that little bit of much needed height while remaining comfortable enough for walking across campus.

Feeling inspired? I know I am. I can’t wait to test out more monochromatic looks this fall.
