STYLE GURU STYLE: Mixing Mediums

It’s the middle of winter. You’ve just ended a semester filled with essays and exams, and you’re about to embark on another four months of the same deal, but don’t let this time of year get you down! Now is a great time to shake things up in your wardrobe.

A material making a huge comeback in the past couple of months is velvet. My goodness, how many celebrities have you seen wearing that ’90s fabric? It definitely has a retro vibe, which is very in right now. I decided to pair this purple velvet top with another statement textile: a leather skirt! Didn’t think you’d see these two textures together, did you? Whether it’s real or fake, the leather still has the same edgy effect. I particularly enjoy the midi length of the skirt. It’s flattering on every body type and immediately makes you look put together.

To add some glam, I chose this glitzy jeweled choker and a pair of rhinestone tights. One of my obsessions at the moment is oil-slick inspired jewelry. Anything with metallic blues, golds, and greens catches my eye. My black suede pointed pumps were the perfect shoe for this outfit, making the whole look very sophisticated. For hair, I kept it pretty simple with a braid going into a ponytail, to keep my hair out of my face. I never leave the house without winged liner, and I thought it was a perfect finish to the outfit.

So go forth and conquer this semester armed with some great looks and the audacity to mix it up! You can’t go wrong.
