STYLE GURU STYLE: Mixing It Up

In the summertime when I can get into a rut of wearing jean cutoffs and tank tops, I am always looking for new ways to take my bohemian style to the next level. I have found that mixing and matching different patterns and fabrics is a great way to add some fun and interest to your everyday style.

In Dries Van Noten’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, he features beautiful bohemian-inspired pieces using dreamy combinations of different fabrics. Van Noten’s collection features flowy wide-leg pants with incredible patterns that inspired my summer look. The relaxed fit of these pants creates a cool, casual feel, while at the same time the flowy leg brings a certain drama and sophistication to the look. This collection has something to say about bohemian style with its mix of different fabrics and patterns. Van Noten’s combination of different materials in his collection creates that offbeat hippie vibe that makes summer bohemian style different and interesting.

Taking inspiration from this amazing collection, I am wearing my favorite pair of lightweight, flowy pants from American Eagle Outfitters. I love them because they are high-waisted enough that I can pair them with a great crop top without exposing too much of my midriff. Also taking a hint from Van Noten’s collection, I was not afraid to combine two different fabrics and patterns. I paired my patterned pants with a lace crop top. Although the top and pants are both different fabrics and patterns, the colors complement each other, helping to pull the outfit together.

As for accessories, I let my silver and black sandals do most of the work. The silver stones on my sandals add another element of interest without taking away from the patterns and textures of my clothing. And as always, I never take off my mix of summer bracelets and rings.

Combining patterns, textures and fabrics may seem a little off-putting at first, but if there is anything that Van Noten’s collection has to teach us, it is that we should never be afraid to mix it up.

Get My Look: 1. Flowy, wide-leg pants. 2. A textured crop top. 3. Strappy sandals.
