Sparkles and pastels go together like Carrie Bradshaw and Manolo Blahnik. From creamsicle orange to the lightest of lavender, pastel colors hold endless possibilities for your summer wardrobe. Combine those colors with the likes of sequins or beading and you have they are the perfect balance of delicate color and shine. Needless to say, I fell completely in love with Monique Lhuillier’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection.

Not only did the collection effortlessly utilize pastel colors and embellishments, but she was also able to incorporate black without losing the classic elegance of her garments. Lhuillier maintains the garden party aura with midi length hem lines and romantic separates. I particularly love her interpretation of a midi skirt because it is a very wearable piece. For a quick tip, always make sure your midi skirt or dress falls in the middle of your shin. You don’t want it to look like your skirt is too short to be a maxi or too long to be tea length. This a great option for us shorter girls who are all too familiar with the maxi dress trip. It’s also perfect for taller girls who have trouble finding a skirt that is long enough to accentuate your long legs. Lhuillier’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection is exemplary of how pastel and embellishments should be done.

After seeing Lhuillier’s spring collection, I went digging in my closet with the hope of mimicking her ladylike inspiration. I knew I wanted to find a midi length dress in a pastel color. This mint green accordion pleated dress fits in well with my candy colored muse. The pleats pay homage to the classic sophistication that is inevitable in a Lhullier piece of clothing. While the silhouette of the dress is simple enough to work for all body types. Adding a belt, like this rope belt, helps emphasize the waist by contrasting the linear direction of the dress.

I am a huge fan of the jackets that were incorporated in to this collection. I also knew I wanted to play with black as Lhuillier did. I also could not forget to add some sparkles. I opted for this studded black boyfriend style blazer. It added just enough contrast and cool to the look which I loved.

One thing I noticed about the collection, is that it featured minimal accessories. Following in suit, I kept to two additional pieces. The first being small earring studs for just a little bit more sparkle. The second article was were my all-important shoes. To complete the look, I wore heeled black boots. They gave me the perfect boost of height and the silver buckle tied back in to the jacket pulling the look together.

If you’re looking to wear pastels this summer make it simple and find a pastel dress. It’s definitely going to be a staple piece in your closet that will be versatile with the change of a great jacket or beautiful jewelry.
