STYLE GURU STYLE: Military Time

Trends may come and go but a great jacket never goes out of style. I have more jackets than there are days in the week and I can always seem to talk myself into buying a new one. Whether it is made of leather, nylon, canvas or even cotton, jackets can add a polished finish to your look.

For my look, I was inspired by the Versace spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. Versace’s collection was full of killer jackets this season; many with a military inspired feel. Versace mainly stuck to a natural color palette, made up of the colors you would find in a camouflage pattern like olive green, black, camel and brown. I stuck to mainly the same color pallet, with the exception of the neon orange lining of my jacket that can sometimes be visible.

To put a spin on the trend seen in Versace’s collection, I decided to make my look more casual and laid-back. I opted for a less structured jacket rather than one with a harsh structure like those seen in the Versace show and a cozy knit sweater in a natural color. To keep my outfit from straying too far into casual wear, I chose my favorite pair of brown booties that dress up any look. I also looked to the never fail way to make any outfit look put together: black skinny jeans. If there is one piece every girl should have in her wardrobe, it is a great fitting pair of black skinny jeans. They can take any outfit from boring to fabulous. I finished my outfit off with my favorite Michael Kors wrap watch, some beaded bracelets and a natural colored cross-body bag.

My trick to this look is folding the sleeves of my sweater over the cuffs of my jacket. Layers always seem to be in style and this is one extra way to show off your layers and that great watch you have hiding under your sleeve!

Get My Look: 1. Black skinnies. 2. A tan knit sweater. 3. A military jacket. 4. Brown ankle boots.
