STYLE GURU STYLE: Midi Oh My

Each and every season I find myself fawning over the latest alice + olivia collection. One of my recent favorite alice + olivia shows is the fall 2015 ready-to-wear. I love the bold patterns and metallic brocade fabrics. Within the show, vibrant jewel tone pieces are grounded with minimalistic black turtlenecks and knee-high boots. Overall, this is a collection filled with unique statement pieces. Every single look features an eye-catching skirt, dress, jacket or pants that was created to be noticed the second the Fashionista wearing the garment walked in a room.

My absolute favorite look from the collection is an emerald green and black maxi skirt that’s paired with a simple black turtleneck. I love how there isn’t a dire need for excessive accessories because the striking pattern of the skirt makes a statement all by itself.

I decided to recreate this look so it would be appropriate for a warm summer day. Due to the rising temperatures, I chose to show a little leg by wearing an on-trend midi skirt rather than a full maxi skirt. The blue color of my structured, high-waisted skirt would have been statement-making as it was, but the black grid pattern added an extra bit of edge.

I kept the rest of my look clean and simple. I added a short sleeve crop top and dainty black and white heels. Wearing this skirt reminded me of Carrie Bradshaw’s voluptuous tulle skirts, particularly those she donned when she went to Paris with Alexander Petrovsky, so I added my “Courtney” necklace, similar to Carrie’s, as a subtle, finishing touch.

Recreating this alice + olivia look helped me realize that one statement piece can go a long way. I’m going to continue looking for one-of-a-kind, bold items that I can add to my wardrobe to create some stand out looks.

Get My Look: 1. A patterned midi skirt. 2. A simple crop top. 3. A pair of dainty heels.
