STYLE GURU STYLE: Midi Dresses

The transition from runway into street style isn’t always an easy thing to do. Setting the trend of loose fitting midi dresses, as well as showing how to add pops of color, Valentino’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection was nothing, but beautiful, inspiring and felt a little magical.

Valentino, one of the most iconic designers, pushes the boundaries and sets trends with every runway collection. As I watched the beautiful models strut down the runway in incredible pieces, I was amazed. Yet, when I saw model Dasha Khlystun walk down in a midi length, mustard yellow velvet dress I was nothing less than inspired. I was on a mission to bring this look into my closet.

Inspired by Valentino’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear runway show, I wore a gray midi dress. I felt most inspired by the high neckline featured in both dresses. I felt like I needed more shape to the dress, so I quickly gathered some fabric and added a side not. This made the dress a little more fitted and took away the boxy feel. I added a pop of color by knotting a fabric choker around my neck. I added a metallic flair with my gold slip on Vans and finished the look with a simple kate spade bracelet.

With the purchase of such a basic piece, like this gray dress, I have been able to wear it many different ways. I can wear it straight for a casual daytime look, but at night easily tie it up to add some body. With the color being so simple, I have been able to pair this dress with hundreds of different accessories to make it feel completely different for each wear.
