The recent Chanel show was a showstopper. With all the lavish fabrics and glitzy metallics, the different looks made me feel as if I were in an Aladdin wonderland with Jasmine’s closet as the main feature. The collection has so many eye-catching prints stemming from lamé to Arabic prints that billowed on the models as they strut down the runway. I fell in love with the pajama-inspired pieces that were worn under printed kaftans. Modern Jasmine would love the gold harem pants and the white angelic printed outfits. Rihanna is famous for her love of exotic vacations and I could see her in these pieces when she goes to the Barbados. The colors were a reminiscence of the sunny Dubai skies, and the different textures added that dose of Persian glam. Lagerfeld also kept his homage to Coco Chanel with the iconic classic tweed pieces. I love gold and anything dazzling, but sometimes it is hard to wear both without looking like a walking disco ball, so I always feel the need to tone down. Karl Lagerfeld shows that any stylish woman can week metallic and print in the same outfit and look flawless.
So today I decided to break out the glitz and glamour. I wore a gold lamé paisley skirt with a striped crop top and some fun accessories that reminded me of something Jasmine may have worn in Aladdin. I normally would have played it safe with the mixing of prints and textures but I wanted to channel my inner priestess. I am wearing a gold spiked choker with my favorite Ankh earrings and gold round sunglasses. I finished off my look with a vintage burgundy cross- body bag, black socks and black Jeffrey Campbell Lita’s.
This fall 2014 show inspired me to add a dose of dazzling metallic in my wardrobe. I can still be a walking disco ball and look effortlessly flawless. It is different and that is all that matters. As Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.”
