STYLE GURU STYLE: Menswear Mash-Up

I’m obsessed with the Saint Laurent spring 2016 menswear collection! The collection mixes leopard print and denim with plaid and leather and skater boy swagger. You can bet that I’ll be rocking this trend in the upcoming months. Not only is the collection loaded with edge, but it is also made up of cool everyday pieces that you already have in your closet! Distressed denim? Check. Converse All-Stars? Check? Plaid button-up? Check.  This collection is seriously everything I love about an edgy, rock ‘n’ roll look—think Kurt Cobain meets the Sex Pistols.

In my look, I pair a vintage bomber jacket and distressed boyfriend jeans for a borrowed-from-the-boys look. A loose-fitting button-up with a cute print adds a fun element to a menswear-inspired outfit. Since it’s summer, I choose a light and flowing fabric. For fall or winter, go for a heavier fabric like flannel to keep you warm.

I love the touch of leopard print that the collection carries, so in my interpretation I rock a comfy headband to add a bit of extra print. It’s a little daunting to try the mixed-print look for the first time, but the trend is super easy to pull off! You don’t have to wear head to toe prints to get the look. For a more subtle take on mixed prints, go for a printed top or bottom and add an accessory in another print to tie it all together—that’s it! I complete my look with a classic Converse high-top. These shoes are so versatile! If you own a pair, you know that they can be pretty much paired with anything; if not, go get a pair! They are truly timeless. This look is effortlessly edgy—don’t bother with a polished hairstyle or worry about a few scuffs on your shoes!
