It’s edgy. It’s bold. It’s Tom Ford‘s fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection. As models walk down the runway, it’s important to take note of repeating trends like the fishnet tights and knee-high boots. What had caught my eye was far more basic and simple.
My inspiration from this collection came from seeing the different types of tops that matched bottoms of the same colors and prints. I chose to use this trend in my own affordable everyday look. I am wearing a gray crop top from ASOS matched with a gray bodycon pencil skirt. I like wearing a longer pencil skirt with a crop top so the overall look remains proportional. My denim Levi Brand Jean jacket is a great cover-up for the windy weather. I’m wearing the light wash denim jacket to blend better with my gray pieces.
If I could wear one item of apparel for the rest of my life (without feeling pain), it would be pumps. Heels can make any outfit sophisticated and make Fashionistas like myself feel confident. Although Ford’s footwear is flat, when it comes to the shoes and boots worn in this collection, I wanted to wear my favorite pair of nude closed toe pumps from Macy’s; they do such a great job of dressing this outfit up.
I used to think matching my tops with my bottoms was the easy and lazy alternative to choosing an outfit. After taking advice from Mr. Tom Ford, I’ve learned that it’s not about the colors you wear, but how you wear them that really makes a difference. You can wear a black top matched with a black bottom, and both pieces will be far from boring.
