STYLE GURU STYLE: Making the Runway Your Own

If I had all of the money in the world, my wardrobe would be a combination of my two favorite luxury brands: Tory Burch and Céline. I love the simplicity that Céline brings to the runway, while Tory’s looks are always preppy and very feminine. Unfortunately, I currently do not have all of the money in the world, and must pay the costs of college instead of the costs of my dream wardrobe. Therefore, I am left to incorporate the details that I see on the runway into my own looks.

Céline’s F/W 16 collection showcases a fabulous suede skirt that gave me the inspiration for this look. I love this skirt because it is very simple, yet there is subtle detail found in the stitching. The neutral color also reflects of many of the looks in Céline’s collection. This gives me immense freedom to make the look my own, depending on what accessories I choose. Luckily, winter in Alabama is fairly mild, so I have opportunities with my style that I would not have if I was at home in Ohio. I do not have to bundle up with long pants and sweaters in order to go outside; warmer temperatures allow me to push the boundaries of winter fashion with styles like this.

My shoes are my favorite component of this look, aside from my skirt. Tory Burch’s F/W 16–17 collection was filled with black leather boots. Black boots are a staple for everyone’s wardrobe, no matter your personal style. They go with just about anything, and are perfect for both fall and winter. I chose these black over-the-knee boots because they appear simple, yet the back laces up into a bow, which adds a girly touch.

I also chose a black shirt that laces up in the front to complement my boots. Since my skirt is a much lighter tone, my black shirt and boots really stand out. My long sleeve shirt is light weight yet very warm, which is ideal for winter. This shirt is another staple because it can be worn for many different occasions, from a casual day of shopping to a night out.

The finishing touches for this look are found in my jewelry. I went with somewhat large, silver earrings because they pop against the dark tones of my shirt and hair. Although I did not need a necklace because of the detail in the shirt, I complemented my silver earrings by layering multiple bracelets.

I love this look because it is so easy to achieve and includes multiple winter staples. Although I went for a girly vibe, choosing a shirt and boots with different details will allow you to truly make this look your own.
