STYLE GURU STYLE: Maison Margiela spring 2016 menswear

I recently started working at H&M and one of the job requirements is to wear only dark gray, black or dark blue clothing. Being the colorful person that I usually like to dress as, this was a huge adjustment. So, the best way to get inspiration before I revamped my wardrobe was to look toward designers who mainly focus their designs on dark colors. The runway show that this outfit was inspired by was, surprisingly, the Maison Margiela spring 2016 menswear collection.

Maison Margiela is known for a dark color scheme and grunge themes. When getting in the spirit of working for H&M, I started to embrace this style. I enjoy looking at menswear for my loose fitting or more laid back looks because, obviously, their clothes are cut differently. Since I am working in retail, I want to be fashionable, yet practical with what I wear, which is why I cuffed my jeans and wore sneakers with my outfit.

This collection was the exact color scheme I needed to pull off successful work attire. The raw-edged shirts and distressed fabrics were ideal in putting together an urban, dark feel. I was able to recreate this look with a basic gray, distressed, high-low T-shirt that was paired with my black denim jeans and white Converse sneakers. The main element from the runway show that I incorporated was the various, solid dark colors. Every item I have on is a different color, yet they all complement one another.

Get My Look: 1. Any dark gray T-shirt. 2. Solid black jeans. 3. Black or white sneakers.
