STYLE GURU STYLE: Madly in Love with Marant

For those who are unfamiliar with Isabel Marant, the brand designs collections that focus on the high-end contemporary side of fashion. The clothes give each Fashionista a womanly flare; however, Marant avoids the traditional embellishments that reflect femininity. Instead of maintaining the classic beauty found in many women, she diversifies her style by making the models look exotic. For example, she incorporates Navajo-inspired fabric in three of her looks from the fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. In addition, in the spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, some of the clothes resemble styles seen on native islanders. Depending on the collection, she keeps each line nontraditional. As the models strut down the runway, the clothes make them look strong and independent. Rather than staying within the lines, she gives us a new insight on what femininity means.

Moving on from the runway, Isabel Marant creates many signature pieces. For everyday wear, she releases certain types of shoes. For example, she sells leather booties and skater shoes. The shoes come in various colors as well. For clothing, she always releases a traditional blouse in either black or white. As a must-have, a Fashionista can pair the blouse with many pieces from her closet. The blouse has a sheer fabric with subtle detailing near the neckline and sleeves. Observing past collections, each skirt shares a similar shape. The skirts all have a stretched out waistband. The waistband flattens the stomach, making one’s waistline more flattering.

For this week, I created a look inspired by Isabel Marant. For the spring and summer, I love wearing sheer blouses because they are lightweight. Recently, I discovered lace bralettes as an alternative to a tank top. Even though the look is less conservative, the bralette makes the whole ensemble even more beautiful. The emerald lace peeps through the sheer fabric, making it fun and flirty. With the blouse, I chose a traditional Marant skirt. The skirt has a lot of greenery, which complements the emerald lace. The whole outfit has a soft and girly side; however, the style quickly changes once I added the skater shoes. The shoes give the look some extra edge, which is commonly found in Isabael Marant’s collections.
