“Throwback Thursday” takes on a new meaning this season with Antonio Berardi’s latest runway show. He gives a nod to the late ’60s and early ’70s with his textured fabrics, mod cuts and rich embroideries. There are lots of flared fits and free, roomy shapes. From glitzy pantsuits to buttery fuchsia dresses, the looks are striking and fit for the rockstars of the emulated time period. The pieces are fun, loud and nostalgic, yet Berardi manages to maintain an air of ease for this resort collection.

I am personally all about the throwbacks in fashion. I love rummaging through boxes of clothing crammed into the closets of my aunts for pieces I can reimagine into a look suitable for 2014. I was really drawn to Antonio Berardi’s new line because of his unique perspective when looking at style from several decades ago. Although I adore the rich colors used in this new line, I didn’t want to go overboard for a daytime outfit by combining both a nostalgic look and incredibly loud vibrancy. I opted for this ’60s shift dress in neutral colors with a mesh flower print. I really liked the variety in texture and the subtle cutout near the chest.

To add a pop of color, I chose a choker necklace in bright coral. It adds a summer touch as the piece mimics the tropical coral reef. I paired it with matching lipstick and toenail polish. Berardi paired his pieces with punchy caged shoes, so I wore a pair of my own in a subtle snakeskin.

I had tons of fun putting together an outfit that offered a modern take on a nostalgic time in fashion! I kept the colors muted to really let the other elements of the mod look shine. Berardi offered a phenomenal show with looks that are easily adaptable for everyday life. Try experimenting with different decades from the 1900s this week. You might be surprised by what you come up with!
