STYLE GURU STYLE: Mad About Color

The recent spring 2015 ready-to-wear show of Thom Browne was absolutely captivating. There was such an element of fantasy present throughout the collection. I felt like I was looking at clothes from Alice in Wonderland or The Capitol in The Hunger Games. While there were shocking colors and textures, the clothes still had a strong structure and design. The majority of the collection was clearly menswear-inspired creating a tailored look with the addition of whimsy. My favorite look was number four, which was dominated by pastels and floral patterns. Particularly eye-catching was the bright blush pink coat that one could easily see as a perfect statement item on colder days.

I decided that the fourth look was going to be my inspiration for capturing this collection. Luckily, I happened to have a blush-colored coat sitting in my closet waiting to be worn. I wanted to maintain the menswear vibe so I went with a button-up shirt, but in a bright floral. I loved the patterns throughout the collection, but felt as though patterned pants would be too much for me. I found the perfect solution in a light wash pair of skinny jeans that have a subtle line down the seam of the leg. To pull the whole look together, I went with my favorite pink statement necklace. To counter the vibrancy of my outfit, I wore a simple pair of black boots, black gloves and black stud earrings. Finally, it just so happens that my everyday backpack pulled everything together with its beautiful floral design!

It is easy to fall into a rut during the winter and dress in a constant rotation of black outfits,(I am definitely guilty of this) but this show really reminded me of the fun that comes with wearing bright colors. While walking around campus in this look, I felt polished and energized, as I stood out from the crowd in my whimsical ensemble!

Get My Look: 1. A fabulous pink structured coat. 2. A vibrant floral button-up shirt. 3. That killer pink lip to top it all off.
