STYLE GURU STYLE: Luxe Meets the Locker Room

The athleisure trend has infiltrated casual daytime fashion which is great news for athletic wear lovers, but how does one go out in sportswear without looking like you simply didn’t put effort into your ‘fit? To create my own spin on the athleisure trend I wanted to incorporate a few of my favorite basics and dependable streetwear.

I was inspired by the Callens spring/summer 2016 ready-to-wear collection. This line is an exemplar of balance between athletic casualty and polished professionalism, resulting in a style that can be adjusted for the gym, office or a night out. This UK collection captures a stream-lined, chic take on athletic wear with minimal color-blocking, sporty jackets, tailored trousers, simple sneakers and a color palette of nudes, dark blues and of course black and white.

For my own look, I decided to stick to black and white (because let’s be honest–basically my whole wardrobe is black and white). I started with a pair of silk jogger-style drawstring pants that give off an athletic feeling, while still being chic as can be, and a simple white crop top for blocking. I accessorized with an oversized Nike jacket with white accents, my favorite pair of black slip-on Vans, a gold body chain for detail and a coat of turquoise nail polish for the most subtle pop of color.

This look is not only sporty and chic, but also practical because it is comprised of the humblest pieces that I love and wear all the time. Plus, this outfit can be changed in the simplest ways for different contexts; I could remove the body chain and head straight to one of my hip-hop dance classes or swap out my sneakers for a pair of sleek black heels to take the outfit from day to night. With the right blend of streetwear and polished pieces, you can really take the athleisure trend anywhere.

Get My Look: 1. Polished silk pants. 2. Cool athletic jacket. 3. Trusty pair of sneakers.
