STYLE GURU STYLE: Looking Hot, Keeping Cool

The warmer months require a different attitude towards the classic denim look. Clothing that clings to the body makes sunny afternoons less enjoyable than they should be, so a looser cut is the way to go as referenced in the Adam Selman spring/summer 2015 ready-to-wear runway collection. The wide leg trouser style is more relaxed and swingy, making the outfit the perfect solution when you are craving a tried and true classic but can’t commit to the imminent heat stroke that comes along with it.

My take on the wide leg trouser trend has a more vintage vibe than the Selman collection with a nautically-inspired silhouette that hits slightly lower than the natural waist. The look is further inspired by the Selman look as the trouser is combined with a white crop top, however, the crocheted style is bohemian where Selman’s looks feature more athletic fits. I exchanged the Converse low-tops from the Selman collection for one of my favorite pairs of shoes, a summery natural cream wedge, which kept the look a bit dressier. The look is then complemented by the addition of a small leather purse in a cherry hue with a polka-dot scarf tied around the strap to give the very simple look a little flair. A few pieces of gold jewelry to top things off and, of course, my trusty bold red lipstick help to complete the look. My advice to budding Fashionistas is this: Find a shade of lipstick or some other beauty product that can make you feel completely confident and can be used with most outfits without clashing. This way if you feel like your outfit is falling flat on any given day of the week, you will have a little style booster in your back pocket to keep your outfit fresh!
