STYLE GURU STYLE: Little Black Slip Dress

Ever since watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s starring Audrey Hepburn in her timeless and classic little black dress, I have fallen in love with the simplicity and glamour that the dress possesses.

My inspiration for this look derives from Bianca Spender Australia spring 2015 runway. The lines, textures, colors and flow of the material seemed to be placed oh so delicately on the models. All of these details found within Bianca Spender’s line create such an alluring, sensational and effortless feel to each of her pieces. Her minimalistic designs are swoon worthy and make you just want to slip right into one of her looks.

Similar to Bianca Spender’s spring runway, I kept the lines of my outfit refined, flirty and flowing. Starting with my Forever 21 little black slip dress, I mimicked the effortless and loose deep V-neck found on most of Bianca Spender’s pieces. Even though my slip dress is not silk but polyester, it still drapes onto my figure and flows with every move. A favorite detail of mine on this dress is the peek-a-boo lace trim found under the hem at the bottom of the dress. The detailed lace is such a lovely touch of contrast against the simple black, which makes the dress even more enchanting.

My favorite color has always been pink but as I mature into being an “adult” my preference in the shade of pink has developed. I now prefer a more rose and blush pink over the basic bubblegum pink. Bianca Spender’s runway was filled with blush pieces that made you want to run to the market to get a bouquet of peonies and blush roses. As soon as I had spotted this embroidered chiffon kimono at Forever 21, I had to have it. Despite the gorgeous color, the whimsical embroidery caught my eye. I’m fond of the fact that the designers kept the floral embroidery the same color as the rest of the kimono because it creates a very soft and elegant look rather than a harsh contrast.

Belled sleeves made an appearance on Bianca Spender’s enticing spring 2015 runway. My chiffon kimono had just that. I love the look of a belled sleeve, I find it to be very genteel yet fun. Similar to the saying about mullets, “business in the front, party in the back.” Belled sleeves are very captivating especially as the belle becomes larger. It is a simple way to step up any trim.

Like the thin lines on Bianca Spender’s runway, I chose refined and sleek black leather Cole Haan sandals. The simplicity and minimalistic design of this sandal is the perfect staple piece in my closet.

Get My Look: 1. A little black slip dress. 2. A whimsical kimono 3. Simplistic sandals.
