STYLE GURU STYLE: Little Black Dress

Although most style trends come and go from year to year, there is one classic wardrobe staple that has withstood the test of time: the little black dress. No matter what season or decade, you can never go wrong with the LBD. DKNY’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection showed the designer’s fresh spin on this trend. The line featured several black dresses in pinstripe prints and edgy sheer fabrics. The entire collection keeps it simple with its monochromatic color scheme and streamlined designs. Blazers layered over loose dresses create a more formal look that can transition seamlessly from day to night.

I was particularly inspired by the T-shirt dresses in the collection because I love versatile pieces that can be worn in different ways. Normally around this time of year I would still be wearing leggings or ripped jeans underneath a T-shirt dress, but lately we have been experiencing some unseasonably warm temperatures.

I really liked the shiny leather boots worn by some of the models in the show, so I decided to pair my T-shirt dress with leather combat boots as well. I love this look because it incorporates masculine elements in a way that still feels feminine and light.

To add some interest to this simple black dress, I wore one of my favorite gold necklaces and a bright red lipstick. I think the necklace works perfectly with my outfit because it’s streamlined and modern. Although it’s a dress, this look is not overly formal and can be worn anywhere from class to dinner with friends.

Get My Look: 1. A black T-shirt dress. 2. Leather combat boots. 3. Geometric gold jewelry.
