STYLE GURU STYLE: Let’s Talk Tunics

Beautifully embellished, youthful pieces graced the runway in the Nanette Lepore’s resort 2016 collection. Each design hung effortlessly, incorporating bell sleeves and and crochet tunics. Lepore told Style.com her inspiration for this collection stemmed from “channeling a romantic, Victorian vibe, resurfacing off-the-shoulder blouses, corset-inspired lacing, and lots of crochet”. Lepore wanted to emphasize a “darker mystical tone” while still keeping the pieces feminine. The floral detailing, along with the bold, psychedelic patterns creates the perfect bohemian-chic look. Each garment has a very delicate and unique silhouette that is perfect for a summer getaway.

I have always adored Nanette Lepore’s designs ever since I visited her showroom in New York City. Her signature bold prints have a gypsy/ ’60s vibe, which caters to my personal style. To recreate the bohemian trend, there are a lot of simple pieces that you can incorporate into your look. Try to find items that have an oversized fit, along with some distressed denim. Layering pieces is always key to achieving that laid back, boho-chic look. Earthy tones are generally the way to go when achieving this look, but the summer months allow any Fashionista to choose pieces that include beautiful splashes of color. Bold, floral prints and lightweight fabrics will complete the bohemian goddess trend.

Pulling inspiration from her collection, I dressed down my loose fitting, floral tunic with a pair of high waisted denim cut-off shorts. I added a lace bralette to create some texture. I kept it simple with a pair of ankle strap black sandals and matching aviators. This look is casual and comfy (so it’s a win-win in my book!).

Get My Look: 1. Find the perfect tunic. 2. Dress it down with your favorite jean shorts.  3. Slip on black sandals.
