STYLE GURU STYLE: Leather Up

September 9th, 2015 at 2:05am

There is always a lot going on in the world of fashion and style. Keeping up with the latest trends can be stressful, especially while being a working student on a budget. My style generally sticks to basics and includes as many oversized sweaters as I can possibly wear in one week; however, I also believe adding a little flare to your everyday, basic look is very important. I have one go-to material that helps me achieve that when wearing my beloved oversized sweaters; that material is leather.

My love for leather has recently grown with the new H&M ready-to-wear fall 2015 line. Their use of leather, sweaters and fall colors is brilliant; however, my inspiration also came from the Victoria Beckham ready-to-wear 2015 collection. Although my outfit is not as “posh” as if the queen Fashionista herself, Victoria Beckham, dressed me, she inspires my continuous use of oversized silhouettes when wearing sweaters and button-downs.

Both of the fall 2015 lines are the inspiration for the outfit seen here. An outfit like mine could be worn comfortably from early morning classes to a late night dinner date. I chose black leather pants, a dark gray oversized sweater and paired them with black leather strap sandals. For accessories, I’m wearing Pandora Stack rings with oversized sunglasses and an aged leather briefcase.

Leather is something that when worn right can make any outfit transition from casual to a night out on the town. In the last few years, while shopping, I have become a big fan of anything leather because of the great quality it provides; however, I would advise keeping the leather pants out of the workplace (and away from Sunday brunches). That being said, I would suggest it with almost anything else. A good way to keep leather pants, skirts or boots low key and casual is to pair them with a long T-shirt or that trusted oversized sweater.

Get My Look: 1. An oversized sweater. 2. Leather pants. 3. Black strap sandals. 4. Pandora stackable rings.
