STYLE GURU STYLE: Leather on Leather

With winter upon us, it can be difficult to create a stylish outfit that also fights the chills. Luckily, leather is an easy go-to that not only showcases major sass, but can also insulate you from seasonal flurries.

To turn this look into a reality, I drew inspiration from Chanel’s pre-fall 2016 show which showcased everything from tweed to lace. However, I felt most drawn to the consistently dark color scheme, hints of light pink and leather on leather combo. An abundance of structured jackets inspired me to also throw one of my own into the mix. Despite the moody colors, the show had an overall feminine vibe that provided interesting contrast and necessary inspiration for my look.

To create my own interpretation of Chanel’s dark, feminine look—I decided to step it up a notch and wear two leather pieces: a leather jacket to incorporate the show’s structured jacket trend and leather boots to give the look dimension. Double leather might usually seem like overkill, but it becomes manageable when broken up with softer colors and materials. To do this, I added a characteristic touch of pink with a light pink high-low T- shirt. A billowy blue-gray patterned scarf and black leggings add a comfort factor, but also help to balance out the structured look of the outfit.

Because the jacket and boots already make such a statement, I kept jewelry and accessories to a minimum. However, I couldn’t resist adding a seasonal touch with some cranberry nail polish and additional flair with a geometric ring.

Leather on leather is a look that can be anything from feminine to grungy, but is never boring. My outfit was inspired by the Chanel 2016 pre-fall show, but no matter where you get your inspiration, double leather is nothing to be afraid of.
