STYLE GURU STYLE: Leather Love is Faux Real

Faux leather is fierce enough to take on any type of weather Chicago brings to its college campuses. Although I typically rock a safe style, I must admit faux leather is my secret fashion weakness. It’s not expected from a Fashionista with wide eyes and a round face to fall in love with such an edgy look, but I certainly have. Faux leather is pretty simple to wear in any season, and there’s an accessory or piece of clothing that is acceptable for just about any occasion. Whether it be a faux leather choker for a summer festival or a pair of faux leather leggings for pumpkin picking in the fall, I approve of it and absolutely need it.

The spring 2016 ready-to-wear Red Valentino collection includes looks that are not only edgy and comfortable for class, but also easy for a Fashionista to replicate. The collection is feminine with its use of pale colors and lace, and also has tough girl touches because of the splashes of black faux leather.

One look in particular caught my attention–a blouse and faux leather skirt combo that any college gal can recreate.

Here’s a little secret: instead of wearing a faux leather skirt, I wore a faux leather dress! I simply slipped a striped T-shirt—a must-have of mine–over my black faux leather dress. Not owning a skirt like the one in the collection and using the bottom of my dress to copy the look instead allowed me to make this runway look my own.

My choice in accessories includes my favorite pair of sunglasses, which makes me feel way cooler than I actually am, and a faux leather choker. Adding a choker to almost any outfit gives the outfit some instant attitude!
