STYLE GURU STYLE: Layers, Prints And Boots, Oh My!

Imagine a collection with beautiful grid prints, slouchy menswear-inspired silhouettes and touches of fur that add great variation in texture. This is Lanvin’s pre-fall 2015 womenswear collection described in a sentence. To translate this lookbook from catwalk to sidewalk I focused on emulating the patterns incorporated in the collection, the layers that were used to style the garments and the menswear inspiration.

I was very excited to see that Lanvin featured a grid print and I know it’s going to be big for fall because I’ve seen three other designers use it in their collections. So if you’re looking to add one piece to your wardrobe definitely buy a garment that features this design! Lucky enough for me I had a button down shirt that emulated this print almost exactly, and with this I paired a tailored blazer to incorporate layers into my look. The button-down shirt captures the menswear inspiration but the tailoring on the blazer still keeps my look feminine. This blazer is great because it doesn’t have a lapel so it’s versatile and can be used in many other outfit combinations.

I used my scarf as a point of interest in my look. Its pattern, which is reminiscent of the runway show, pops against the black background of my outfit and against the contrasting print of my shirt. Mixing patterns is something that is key to my style and by keeping both my shirt and scarf in neutral colors my look comes off as classic and chic. I finished my outfit off with my signature Dr. Martens; these boots are a key piece in my wardrobe and they embody the menswear inspiration.

Get My Look: 1. A shirt with a grid print. 2. A versatile black blazer for layering. 3. Chunky menswear-inspired boots.
