STYLE GURU STYLE: Layers and Leather

Ohio weather is always unpredictable to say the least. Just last week we had a bright sunny day that felt like the beginning of summer all over again, and today we are bundling up in winter coats, and layers upon layers of sweaters. I can’t say I’m upset though, I love Ohio and all its unpredictability, it has really expanded my wardrobe! While I am a little sad to retire my sandals for the year, I am excited to pull out those sweaters, flannels, hats and scarves!

My personal style has always been influenced by the Ohio weather. I like to dress fashionably but as my mom always says, “you have to dress for the weather,” so I usually start my day by checking the weather app and figuring out what’s appropriate. Today calls for layers and definitely a touch of leather. I love wearing this flannel tunic because it is cozy and versatile, it’s a great layering piece that keeps me warm underneath sweaters and coats. If you don’t already own a flannel you love, try your local thrift store! There are always interesting colors and patterns, plus it’s always fun to hunt for treasures. On top of that I like to add a thin sweater. I wear this boxy sweater almost every day when it is cold out. I usually add some leggings when I’m running late to class, or you could throw on some black jeans and a statement shoe if you’re trying to dress up a little bit. Finally, I add my favorite winter coat. It keeps me warm while looking cool and somehow goes with everything. I bought this jacket a few season ago, but it is coming back around, I mean, who doesn’t love a faux Sherpa-lined coat? Finding a fashionable winter jacket that is your style is worth the splurge and will make bearing the cold feel less like a battle and more like walking the runway. Add in a leather turban, a bag big enough for all your books and you’re ready to get to class and stay warm while doing it.

Finding a winter style that’s all your own can be difficult, but in Ohio, we have to dress for the weather!
