STYLE GURU STYLE: Layer on the Layers

As I have mentioned in my previous post, “black on black,” the ’90s grunge look is now coming back, over 15 years later.  Also, flannels are no longer only worn by lumberjacks.

The Maison Kitsune fall 2015 ready-to-wear show displays many ways you can wear a skirt.  Luke Leitch, who reviewed the collection on Vogue.com wrote about this Korean-inspired French style, “There was a compilation’s worth of K-prep cuteness with standouts including a jersey-knit polo-collar dress with a skirt of gray flannel and a chest of blue ribbed knit, and a fluffed, red-on-black tartan school skirt.”

For my outfit, I choose a flannel shirt to pair with my skirt.  Combining the mix of the plaid with the concept of layering, I integrated this runway look into my own outfit.

Pairing a flannel with a skirt is a great way to get a casual street look and be prepared for any type of weather.  If it’s a chilly evening, you can obviously wear the flannel, and if it’s a warm sunny day, you can tie it around your waist.  And yes, you’re allowed to tie your flannels or sweaters around your waist and look adorable these days.

Also, if today is just a lazy, bed head kind of a day, throw your hair up into a half-up bun style like I have done here.  This is my favorite go-to style when my hair is flat or I don’t have time to style it, because it takes little time to do!  Don’t be afraid to dress it up a little with a headband.

Get My Look:  1. Any flannel of any color.  2.  A skater skirt.  3.  A strappy bralette.
