STYLE GURU STYLE: Layer Me Up

March 3rd, 2015 at 2:00am

The recent runway show from L.A.M.B. is the wake up call every Fashionista/o needed. A necessary balance between masculinity and femininity brought the collection to life. There was a lot of play with layering which is always necessary during the winter. This gave me the confidence I needed to rock my personal style even during the harshest weather. The color selection brought a little bit of edginess to each look, allowing the more daring Fashionista’s to really hone in on their own innovative styles. I am always worried that layering will make me look like an over stuffed Thanksgiving turkey, but L.A.M.B.’s fall collection shows that I have nothing to fret about. Layering is always a good thing as you can create really great looks with pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Another good thing that layering can help with is transitioning clothing items that are usually worn during a particular season. For example, we usually don’t put on a dress during the winter unless we have to but when you start layering your outfit a spring dress can easily turn into a “wear during any season” dress.

Today I wanted to focus on staying warm by layering up while staying a little bit more on the feminine side. I wore my favorite denim button-down shirt underneath a mint knit sweater. The knit sweater is a three-fourths sleeve allowing the denim shirt to be exposed a bit more. I completed my outfit with some suede black booties and black skinny jeans to add a bit of edge to my overall look. I accessorized with a mint green scarf and a nice gold watch.

This runway show convinced me to stop worrying about wearing too much at one time and just go for it! Your outfit will easily attract attention (in a good way). It gives people the opportunity to discover the different “levels” within their their outfit. For all of the Northerners, it’s also an easy way to keep warm in some really chilly weather.

Get My Look: 1. A cute knit sweater. 2. Black booties. 3. Your favorite black skinny jeans.
