STYLE GURU STYLE: Layer Me Up

As we move into winter it only feels right to talk about layers. Sometimes, layering clothing can be a tricky thing to do, but when it is done correctly, layering can be the key feature of your look.

It appears the latest crop of runway collections are heading in bolder, unexpected directions when it comes to piling on layers. Heavily featured on the runway from Burberry’s pre-fall 2016 collection were various styles and combinations of outwear and layering. The main focus of Burberrys collection was the pairing of simple pants or jeans with sweaters, coats, jackets or capes.

This winter there are plenty of different ways to layer your outfits to create some truly on-trend looks. I recreated a layered look inspired by the Burberry pre-fall collection with just a few simple pieces. I first started with a black bodysuit. Wearing a bodysuit is a great way to keep your outfit in pristine condition throughout the day and it leaves you worry-free when it comes to un-tucked messes. Adding my favorite pair of high-waisted black skinny jeans kept my outfit monochromatic and yearning for color. The perfect way to add some color was by adding a layer. Since I like to stick to neutrals, I decided to throw on a gray oversized cape. Finishing up my look, I put on a pair of black studded booties and chose to accessorize with a black handbag and black sunglasses. The layering for this look not only gave my outfit a pop of color but it also added dimension to my bodysuit and jeans.

Although layering may seem suiting for winter and colder weather, don’t let that stop you from layering throughout the other seasons. Layering can be fun to experiment with and it keeps your look fresh and dynamic!
