STYLE GURU STYLE: Keeping It Neutral

With the official start of spring behind us, it’s time to consider what in the world our spring wardrobe will consist of. A common misconception is that spring means outfits should be comprised of a plethora of pastel tones. Though pastels are associated with spring trends, they should be used in reason. That being said, A.L.C took a slight departure by having their ready-to-wear spring 2015 collection comprised mostly of basic neutral colors with bright pops of color. A.L.C’s collection is made up of mostly blacks and whites with vibrant colors like orange, green and red used sparingly. The collection has looks with multiple pieces, with some looks having only one staple piece. The purposeful juxtaposition of structured pieces mixed with flowy pieces shown with bustier tops and flowy cropped pants. The collection featured tailored jumpsuits with cutouts and structured blazers.

Translating the aesthetic of A.L.C’s collection into my everyday wardrobe, I chose to highlight the use of neutral colors in the collection. With the runway looks in mind, I used my American Apparel tennis skirt as my starting point. I paired the skirt with a dark gray turtleneck, black booties and my Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses. My intention was to capture the clean, crisp vibe encompassed by the collection by using colors like gray, white and black.

As founder and designer of A.L.C, Andrea Lieberman once said, “I want A.L.C to be synonymous with the new vanguard of American fashion.” She has clearly achieved that tenfold. Fingers crossed that my inspired look does her genius some rightful justice.

Get my Look: 1. Tennis skirt. 2. Gray turtleneck. 3. Black booties.
