STYLE GURU STYLE: Just For Sport

Since I have to wear heels the first half of every week (perks of working in an office building) and uncomfortable flats the other half (perks of a retail job), sportswear has become my favorite thing for the weekends. Being able to stylishly work sneakers into any outfit makes walking around a breeze. Inspired by the Joseph resort 2016 collection, courtesy of the talented Louise Trotter, I created this sportswear look that is great for weekend shopping or weekday errands.

The Joseph resort collection featured models wearing masculine silhouettes in the form of pants, hoodies and bulky sandals. To make this collection slightly more wearable, I switched out the featured loose, oversized skirts for a more tight fitting one. Not only is this skirt slightly more feminine, but the ruched detail on the side pays homage to the pleats and textures seen in the bottoms in the collection. In addition, I decided to stick with the same monochromatic palette that Trotter worked with, using only gray, white and black to create the entire look. Though this could seem boring or repetitive, playing with different lengths, textures and items can help the outfit become more fashionable and chic.

For my outfit, I paired the tight skirt with a flowy cotton v-neck which I tied at the waist. Since the skirt was slightly high-waisted and my shirt was extremely long, I decided to let the back of the shirt flow free while the front was tied. This extreme difference in length flatters any body type and keeps the outfit from being too monotonous.

As for my shoes and accessories, I kept the outfit clean with just my silver sunglasses and Nike sneakers. The sneakers, instead of sandals like featured in the collection, are more wearable and comfortable for walking around as well as keep the outfit casual. The skirt can seem too dressy without them. I played up my hair and makeup just to make things interesting by doing a french plait in my hair and topping my lips off with some bright red orange lipstick, which is perfect for the summer season.

The Joseph resort 2016 collection can be easily translated into beautiful weekend wear. Trotter’s combination of menswear, sportswear and female models created a series of looks that just can’t be beaten.
