STYLE GURU STYLE: Just A Cinch

The talk of Isabel Marant’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection was the extremely high-waisted pants that filled the runway. I am a sucker for anything high-waisted, so this collection made me super stoked for fall. Although the pants received all the attention, I think the entire show was killer. Another element that really stood out to me was the belts. Almost every look was belted, whether it was ultra skinny on the high-waist pant or super wide on the flouncy dresses.

I channeled Marant’s collection by belting a dress of my own. Many of the tops and dresses in the collection had a laced closure at the neckline, so I picked this flowy Free People dress that has the same feature. This dress is one of my reliable pieces for a fun spring or summer day. It is super easy, but has so much detail, which makes it seem so effortless. I belted it with a thick braided brown leather belt. This helped accentuate my waist since the dress is so loose otherwise. I topped off the look with my favorite felt hat, which I seem to want to wear with everything. I finished the look with the perfect go-to boho sandals—gladiators.

Adding a belt to a flowy dress completely transforms the look, so I understand why Marant really utilized the piece in her collection. Sometimes a dress can be so loose fitting or baggy that it swallows the person and detracts from their figure. Simply adding a thick belt to your natural waistline not only looks amazing, but also shows off your figure and accentuates all the right places.

Get My Look: 1. A boho dress. 2. A thick belt. 3. Gladiator sandals.
