STYLE GURU STYLE: Jump Into The New Year

Jumpsuits are the perfect middle ground for people, like myself, who love to get dressed up but still love the convenience of running around in pants. Not to mention that most jumpsuits have pockets, which are always handy and you will without a doubt look stylish in one because you ditched a traditional dress for something new. If that didn’t convince you into investing in a jumpsuit, I’ll let the runway speak for itself! Designers such as Maison Martin Margiela, Diane von Furstenburg and Valentino have incorporated this trend into their pre-fall 2014 collections. One collection that ties together both menswear aspects of a jumpsuit while incorporating feminine colors and details is the 2014 pre-fall collection by Preen. I love how they took the basic black and white simplistic palette and added vibrant hues of colors into each look. Whether it was a zipper, coat lining or bold lip they draw in the viewer’s attention with statement colors in contrast to the black background.

For my outfit, I drew inspiration from the Preen collection while sticking to my usual love for neutral colors. Because it is currently bone-chilling cold in the Midwest, I had to layer up in order to make this sleeveless jumpsuit work for winter temperatures. Over the jumpsuit, I added a matching black cardigan and a fur vest. This type of vest is great for layering throughout both the fall and winter because it is not only warm and stylish, but when it is colder in the winter you can add a coat over it as another layer and still look great. For shoes, I continued with neutral colors and wore brown embellished booties. Like many of the looks in the Preen collection, I went for a bold lip color to finish off my outfit.

No matter what the season is, you can still incorporate a jumpsuit into your outfit. Next time you have to get dressed up for an occasion, abandon all your dresses and try looking for a formal jumpsuit that will help you stand out from the crowd.
