If there’s one clothing category to which I will absolutely, unfailingly pledge my allegiance to, it’s one-piece wonders. From overalls to rompers and playsuits to footie pajamas, these practical pieces exude a sense of stylish comfort and chic effortlessness that’s simply unparalleled.
While browsing recent runway collections, I came across this sleek, leg lengthening patterned jumpsuit number from Stella McCartney’s glorious spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection. In that moment, I swore I had to try out the trend. There was just one little problem: I didn’t have a jumpsuit. So what’s a broke, resourceful college student to do? Why, make my own, of course. Or at the very least, create the illusion of one.
In this week’s edition of STYLE GURU STYLE, I tucked a breezy polka-dot tank top into my favorite comfy, similarly dotted high-waisted drawstring joggers to emulate Stella McCartney’s elegant jumpsuit silhouette. As for footwear, I replaced Stella McCartney’s red sandals with a pair of black platform sandals—a neutral, monochrome update that still managed to give me a boost, while also retaining my comfort. Next, it was on to accessories. I substituted the plunging neckline of McCartney’s jumpsuit for my gold nugget pendant necklace to add a sense of demure glamour, while my vintage aviators lent the look a sense of cool sophistication (or so I’d like to believe). To polish off the ensemble, I added a vintage black beaded clutch, which was the perfect size to hold just the essentials while also paying homage to Stella McCartney’s bag of choice.
Trying out a jumpsuit in this noncommittal way made my compulsion to jump on this trend and buy an actual jumpsuit that much stronger. Thanks to Stella McCartney’s spring 2014 ready-to-wear show, my closet will soon be seeing a substantial influx of these one-piece wonders. I urge all Fashionistas to follow suit and jump in on this trend as well. You surely won’t regret it!
