Bonjour, Fashionistas/os! Not only do I hope your weeks are off without a hitch, but I also hope that you are ready to experience a first with me. Today marks the first day in history that I will be posting under one of CollegeFashionista’s new categories STYLE GURU STYLE, and I couldn’t be more excited!
A couple days ago I was browsing through the spring 2014 ready-to-wear column of Style.com, and came across the Jasmin Shokrian lookbook. I was instantly attracted to the shirt that read, “Je pars habiter à Los Angeles,” which means “I’m going to live in Los Angeles.” I thought this quote and outfit was only fitting for my first CollegeFashionista STYLE GURU STYLE post considering I will be living in Los Angeles for the summer, and I start that chapter of my life in less than 20 days! In her lookbook, Shokrian wanted to illustrate everyone’s obsession with California (specifically L.A). Shokrian also wanted to incorporate the city’s chill vibes and laid back lifestyle.
My challenge this week was to maintain the chill vibes. I normally associate maxi skirts with a fancier look and graphic T-shirts with a more casual look. For the first time, I got inspired to mix up the two. I pulled out my own maxi skirt and paired it with a graphic T-shirt fit for any Fashionista/o. I think this outfit is perfect for any time of the day and even fit for a date night!
When it came to styling the outfit, I tried to marry the calming theme Shokrian was going for with a more Kylie Jenner, edgy, rocker-chic feel. I brought my jacket along just in case it got a bit chilly, and I finished everything off with a summer favorite: gladiator sandals. I fell in love with the fact that the outfit is neutral except for the statement piece—the maxi skirt, which holds all the color. Due to its length, drama and richness, the maxi skirt draws the eye and carries its own character. Overall, the outfit is comfortable to wear, versatile and easy to put together.
