STYLE GURU STYLE: I’ve Been Dreaming Of A White Summer

When the seasons change, nothing gets me in the new mindset more than a quick shopping trip and some closet cleaning. There is something so refreshing about packing up your wholly sweaters into boxes and storing them away for the summer. So long snow, hello sand!

Whether you’re spending your summer on the beach getting a tan, on the grass working at summer camp or on the couch watching Netflix (deny all you want, we are all guilty), the summer air surrounds all of us. What does this mean exactly? It means that sometimes it feels instinctual to dump your black-colored clothes and feel renewed in white.

I noticed I wasn’t the only one who thought this way when I browsed some runway shows from this past spring season. The white-on-white trend, which was once considered tacky, is now blowing up runways and fashion lines all over the world. I was on board with this trend the moment I saw it, but it was the J.Crew spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection that made me want to try it for myself.

I especially liked this look because although the outfit was all-white, the accessories were not, which balanced the ensemble completely. When I started shopping for this outfit, the first place I visited was the thrift store. There, I picked up some white New York & Company white capris for $3.99, which was a major steal. I paired my new pants with a white button down and some black and white platform sandals, which offset the overwhelming amount of white I was wearing. I accessorized my look with a black and white striped bag similar to how the model in the J.Crew was styled. I completed the look with some black sunglasses.

Wearing all of one color, especially white, can seem like something only high fashion models can pull off. But when paired with the right accessories and complementary colors, this look is totally doable at home. Whether you’re going to work, an interview or a simple get-together, this trend is sure to turn heads and make for a white-hot arrival!

Get My Look: 1. White capris. 2. White collared shirt (long or short sleeves work). 3. Black and white bag.
