STYLE GURU STYLE: It’s All in the Cropped Sweater

Crop tops are a staple piece in my wardrobe and I have tried to incorporate this trend into every type of outfit. The fall 2015 ready-to-wear collections have made it clear that just because we’ve shifted into the colder months doesn’t mean we have to say goodbye to the crop top trend. The sweater crop top is the latest version of the beloved crop top and Isabel Marant shows us a flirty and fun way to style it in her fall 2015 collection.

Although Isabel Marant usually sticks to neutral and dark shades for her pieces, she isn’t afraid to add a pop of color to a monochrome ensemble. I used this as an inspiration to go with a cropped sweater in a warm, mustard yellow shade. Her collection combines the comfortable coverage of a chunky knit sweater contrasted with the revealing nature of the mini skirt. With the addition of studded high-heeled booties, her outfits go from casual to trendy.

What looks like a high fashion inspired outfit is actually really simple to reinvent. My outfit revolves around the staple cropped sweater, which I’ve paired with a pleated leather mini skirt. The contrasting textures complement each other and create a unique look. I tucked in the cropped sweater for a seamless and sleek contrast.

This Isabel Marant-inspired look would not be complete without a pair of short booties. The booties she designed for her fall 2015 collection are adorned with studs and buckles that add a subtle hint of edginess to the soft texture of her skirts and sweaters. To achieve the same affect, I wore a pair of gray Charlotte Russe booties that are amplified with a chain and buckle. Crop tops don’t seem to be going out of style any time soon. With their reinvention into cropped sweaters this winter season, Fashionistas can effortlessly pull off this girly look.

Get The Look: 1. A cropped sweater. 2. Any mini skirt. 3. Ankle booties.
