STYLE GURU STYLE: It’s A Trench Coat, Not A Trench Don’t

Picture this: you’re getting ready for the day and you want your look to say “trendy” but simple. Your feet kill you from the day before when you wore your favorite stilettos to work and you aren’t really feeling a super structured look right now, what do you do? You walk over to your closet and pick out that T-shirt dress you’re obsessed with, because who could be mad at T-shirt? Next, you walk over to your racks and racks of shoes, what do you choose? Obviously the nude textured wedges that elongate your legs and are easy to walk in! Lastly, you top off this comfy chic outfit with a trench coat?

Taking inspiration from the often imitated but never duplicated brand of Burberry, I created my look with Burberry’s pre fall 2016 collection in mind. Much like Burberry’s collection, I stuck to a simple color scheme of mostly neutral colors. I combined classic understated colors to my look, such as black and nude shades. I also used simple textures to contrast with the structure of this sleeveless trench.

Although fall seems like ages away, the chillier months are fast approaching! A structured trench coat will prove relevant from fall through summer with just some simple changes. During the chilly months of fall and winter, try adding more layers and a pair of wide leg trousers in a color that isn’t expected. You can find examples of a look similar to this in Burberry’s pre fall 2016 collection as well. When the weather is warm outside try a look similar to my comfy chic combo. Don’t be afraid to play with proportions and color!

My goal for this outfit was to channel the structured polished look Burberry portrays but also keep the look cool and casual for the daytime and even class. A classic trench coat will always be trending, especially when you keep it relevant with your own pop of style. For me, my pop of style came in with the wedges I’m wearing. I’m currently obsessed with them and thought they added a cool contrast since open toed shoes aren’t normally seen with a trench look.

My outfit includes a plain black T- shirt dress with pocket detail and a pair of nude textured wedges. To add to this look I paired my ultra simple little black shirt dress with a very structured sleeveless trench coat. I added a pop of color to my look with Rose Dahlia lip shade by Yves Saint Laurent.

Get My Look: 1. Any T-shirt dress. 2. A classic trench coat. 3. Nude wedges.
