STYLE GURU STYLE: Inspired By Saab

Being a Fashionista, I love the ability to be able to play with prints and patterns that incorporate two different kinds of style. In Elie Saab’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection, we see a collection that does just that. In every look there is a feminine element whether it be lace, fur or florals, but an edgy twist comes with every look. Even though the models may be draped in head to toe lace the lace is stark black, or paired with a leather jacket. Another trend seen throughout the collection is the idea of floor length garments including trousers and dresses. Each look is finished with a hard metal accessory like a belt or choker. This collection became the feminine, yet edgy inspiration for my outfit today.

The base of my outfit is a black maxi dress with an abstract floral print. On top of the floral print is a geographic print that adds a pop of color. I used the orange color in the print as a jumping off point to match my accessories to match with. I wanted to incorporate hard metal accessories like seen in the Elie Saab collection so I added a stack of copper tone jewelry on my wrist to tie in that feature. I continued to match the orange tones from my dress to my accessories by wearing a pair of tan lace-up heeled sandals. Both accessories add the element of edge thanks to the metal material of the jewelry and the lace-up feature of the shoes.

Finally to complete the look, I wore a leather jacket over the maxi dress to add the final piece of edge to my outfit. In Elie Saab’s collection the models are often seen with leather jackets or large fur coats draped over their outfits so it was only fitting for me to do the same. Without the leather jacket I felt that the dress remained too feminine looking and the addition of the jacket emulated the Saab collection as well. Together this outfit takes a high end collection and transforms it into something that any Fashionista can put together!
