STYLE GURU STYLE: In Her Natural Habitat

July 28th, 2015 at 2:00am

In honor of the no makeup selfies going viral to end cyber bullying, I decided that for this STYLE GURU STYLE article, I would do a more natural approach to incorporating fashion shows to my personal style. In my last runway inspired look, I wore a a full face of makeup. But in reality, I hardly wear any makeup on a regular day. While I love to dress up, this week’s inspiration, drawn from the Pam & Gela spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, is much more similar to my everyday look. This collection gained my appreciation because it consists of all that a lazy girl (like me) could hope for: sweaters, T-shirts and (my favorite) socially acceptable sweatpants.

I will be the first to admit my weaknesses. I can admit that I have severe FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) whenever people are having fun without me. I can also admit that until last week I didn’t know how to ride a bike and am still pretty bad at it. So I will admit that I am not the best at staying up-to-date with the latest fashion shows and high end magazines. Frankly, I think fashion shows are beautiful and incredible but I sometimes find myself wondering, “Who would actually wear these clothes out on an average weekday?”

My style is always changing but I guess right now it varies between hippie and grunge. This is why this collection by Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor caught my attention. Most collections I look at make me feel like I am just trying to understand something I don’t, like why I am not best friends with Taylor Swift or why Netflix doesn’t have She’s the Man. But this collection is just very fun and vibrant, yet relaxed and casual. Looking through this collection felt like I was online shopping at one of my favorite stores. Levy and Taylor put together a collection that cannot be described by just a few traits because it varies so widely.

I gathered inspiration from this collection by keeping it simple. Sometimes we get so caught up in wearing all of our favorite jewelry, accessories and makeup that our outfits look overwhelmed. Ain’t nobody got time for that, so I pieced together my favorite pair of ripped jeans with a loose knitted top to keep this look simple yet give it some flare. I added my completely beat up Converse high-tops to tie together this grunge look. Lastly, let’s be honest, most days I do not have the energy to do my hair. This is especially true when I know that if I do put in effort, my hair will just frizz the second I step outside. I decided to be practical and throw my hair up in a ponytail. This puts together a look that not only makes it seem like you aimed for this “just rolled out of bed” look, but also that you are nailing it.

Get My Look: 1. Ripped jeans. 2. Loose, off-the-shoulder top. 3. Neutral bralette.
