Up until recently, my sneaker collection only found itself useful in high school gym class and the occasional jog on the treadmill before the start of bathing suit season. I kept mine plain and simple, mostly because the thought of wearing them with anything but yoga pants and V-neck athletic shirts seemed almost embarrassing to me. In my eyes, they were a major fashion “don’t.”
It wasn’t until Cara Delevingne made her entrance alongside the creator of the fashion powerhouse, Karl Lagerfeld that my pessimistic views on sneakers dramatically changed. Chanel’s spring 2014 couture collection took fashion to a new level, and focused a rather mundane piece in a revolutionized and interesting way. They centered their theme, the sneaker, around rather dressy ensembles to really catch the attention of Chanel lovers everywhere.
After intently viewing the show multiple times (to the extent I could describe each model’s outfit almost perfectly), I ventured into my own wardrobe to come up with my rendition on Delevingne’s trendy threads. Since it was my first time attempting such a look, I aimed for simple pieces that blended well together. I chose my favorite Urban Outfitters black cut-out dress to start the look. To me, this is the perfect type of dress for first-timers like myself. I say this because it fits the profile for simple, yet trendy. To add a little more to the dress, I chose a few thin, gold necklaces. I have become a huge fan of layering necklaces, and feel that they’re the perfect addition to pretty much any outfit. Finally, to finish it off while rocking the sneaker, I slipped into my black Nikes.
While I chose to maintain a solid, all-black look, feel free to add varying colors and styles of dresses to make the look your own!
