STYLE GURU STYLE: How to Properly Match

Tomas Maier designed a stunning 2016 resort collection using color as a focus. Bottega Veneta is known for it’s no-logo look and craftsmanship. The designer has a an eye for beautiful silhouettes and proportions. This collection also demonstrated a trend that is not new—matching. My opinion is divided on this one, but I thought I’d give it a go. Matching garments to makeup or accessories can be tricky to accomplish in a tasteful manner. I have always been against matching my eye shadow to my clothing for example, but others view this as attention to detail, in a positive way.

For this look I didn’t go as far as to match my makeup to my garments, but I considered the accessories in my overall look as Maier has done. I started my look with a pair of Melanie Auld Double Diamond chandelier earrings. From there, I looked through my closet to find a blouse that would compliment these. The material of the top I chose works nicely because although the colors match one another, they don’t compete because of its sheerness. I was wearing this as an evening outfit, so I went with a darker jean as opposed to a white, which would also work for the summer! I tied the look together with my Balenciaga Gia Sunglasses and kate spade Lucca Drive Candance Bag, both in black. As for my shoes, I wore my tiger flats to make another statement that was subtle enough to work with the color scheme.
