From red shelves lined with cookbooks along my kitchen’s pale blue walls, to Spode plates surrounding a vase of yellow sunflowers on my dining table—growing up, my house was always filled with primary colors. So when I saw the Marc by Marc Jacobs resort 2015 line, it immediately felt like home.
The line’s mix of blue and yellow floral prints with classic, neutral pieces is perfect for the early days of August and the final days of summer. While most looks from this collection have an androgynous feel (blending pleated skirts with button-downs, suspenders with flowers and work boots with A-line dresses), I decided to bring some of its flirtier, more feminine aspects to my own ensemble.
I started with this blue, floral skirt (which has been hanging in my closet since high school) and a simple, white T-shirt to keep my look clean, crisp and summery. If I’d had a pair of suspenders, I would have thrown them on too. Instead, I took a simpler approach with a brown belt and some matching ballet flats.
My yellow cardigan brought that blue and yellow combination that I just adore to this outfit, without clashing or looking over the top. Plus, it provided a great extra layer during the breezy, summer evening. I finished my ensemble off with a long necklace, stack of bracelets and a loose side braid—all of which are part of my everyday look.
