STYLE GURU STYLE: Hello Hot Pink

Winter is still taking over Illinois, but I can hardly wait until spring. The thing I miss most about the warm weather has to be the flowers and the colors that come along with spring. I was inspired by the kate spade new york runway show and decided to bring my own color to campus with this bold look. The looks in this runway show consumed me by its use of classic colors accented with the use of adventurous patterns and breathtaking floral prints. I enjoyed how the runway show had a style that could fit several fashion occasions. The looks ranged from casual pantsuits to flirty skirts along with the perfect look for a night on the town.

In my personal style, I tend to shy away from bright colored outfits but after witnessing the creations done by kate spade, I decided to go out of my comfort zone and be courageous and mimic one of her brightly styled looks. For this outfit I created a quirky, sophisticated, yet feminine-preppy look. One of the first things I noticed about the kate spade show was the use of prints. I have always paired any printed bottom with a quiet top to reduce the outfit’s chance of being too busy. But this show showed me that I could still keep a clean look by just adding in bright colors, that is why I decided to go with a hot pink sweater with a slight collar added in. To tie the outfit together, I matched my creation with a pair of oxfords to maintain the preppy look as it did in the show.

The kate spade runway show truly inspired me to go out of my comfort zone with my color choices and style choice. I would never normally dress in a preppy style but I am taking chances with fashion. I highly recommend trying to find one outfit per week that you feel challenges your fashion comfort zones. It will pay off!
