Effortlessness is key. Outfits that look like they took three minutes to put together but still look amazing are my weakness. Ashish Gupta definitely portrays this with his spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection. His collection is filled with shredded sequined denim and caftan-like robes. His collection screams youth in a celebratory way. It also takes a fun look into all things international, from Arabic characters printed on the clothing to Viking worthy crowns.
Every look was grungier than the last one and had its own essence. I have always secretly wanted to pull of this look. I stuck to what seems to be Ashish’s staple, the shredded denim, and threw on a cropped top. I wanted to look cool because that is the only way to describe this collection. Every single look was just so cool. I didn’t exactly have tons of sequins lying around so I tied an oversized plaid shirt around my waist.
This toned down my look and made it look as if took me three seconds to get dressed, but in a good way. I wore wedges because I am pretty short and my small frame would be overwhelmed with all the volume if I didn’t add some height. So my tiny Fashionistas, you too can pull off any look you want. I am now on the hunt for a sequined blazer to wear with this look for a night out.
This has got to be one of my favorite collections just because it is so different. It really inspired me to take a giant step out of my little fashion box. I don’t know where or when I would wear sequined denim, but at least I know I have the option if the occasion ever arises.
If you don’t learn anything from me, remember this—sequins are always the answer.
