STYLE GURU STYLE: Groundbreaking Florals

A runway trend that I’ve been a fan of since I started being interested in fashion was the mixing of edgy and girly. I love the contrast of the two vibes and it makes an outfit much more interesting to look at. I try to do this type of contrast when I get ready to choose an outfit. Mixing a feminine floral print with a leather jacket or some ripped jeans is a perfect example of this hard-soft combination.

I love how kate spade did this in their most recent spring 2016 ready-to-wear show. The entire show had lots of dark and neutral hues with some occasional pops of color. Many outfits in this show also mixed casual pieces with more dressy items. I tried to recreate the vibe from that show with items I had in my own closet.

To reinvent the look I chose one of my favorite hoodies from Forever 21. The cream colored hoodie has some great black and purple floral print details. I added some simple light-wash ripped jeans from American Eagle Outfitters to add some distressed edginess. Another contrast I did was add some simple black heels to a typically casual look. Doing this further added to the girly feel. My green military jacket from J.Crew was just another element I incorporated to give the outfit another layer of interest.

Contrast is key for creating an interesting outfit. Whether it’s color contrast, a mix of patterns and prints or doing what myself and Kate Spade did with a mix different fashion vibes.

Get My Look: 1. Timeless black heels. 2. Ripped denim. 3. Printed hoodie.
