STYLE GURU STYLE: Grayscale

Never has athleisure looked as glamorous as it did in the 50 looks of the Akris ready-to-wear fall 2015 collection shown during Paris Fashion Week. Head designer Albert Kriemler took this athletic-inspired trend that has been sweeping the fashion world and pushed it further with his collection featuring structured jackets and tailored pantsuits. Although sophisticated, the looks still retained a vibe of ease, motion and comfort. The collection stuck to a palette of neutral grays, creams and blacks. What I love about monochromatic looks like these is that they are both dramatic yet understated. One of these looks will make heads turn but not in a screaming-for-attention way.

I certainly identify with Akris’ athleisure influences. I love wearing simple, bold outfits comprised of neutral colors and often wear a lot of black. My look is a much simpler, more practical version of the Akris collection. The looseness of my top and tighter fit of my leggings create shape and movement. My color palette is extremely simple, comprised of gray and black. I couldn’t help but to sneak in a little pop of color and pattern with my shoes and a touch of detail with my flower necklace. It’s a look that is stylish enough for a day at the internship and is comfortable enough to withstand the strenuous several block trek there!

Akris’ fall show proved that athleisure can indeed be practical and glamorous in a simple, understated way. Even a color as drab as gray can become feminine and powerful. I have loved this trend and will continue to incorporate it into my wardrobe.

Get My Look: 1. A long, simple gray top. 2. Some black faux leather leggings. 3. A pair of colorful, funky flats.
