In NOLA, when it rains, it absolutely pours. Nearly every day of summer so far has seen precipitation ranging from persistent drizzles to torrential storms. No hurricanes so far (vigorously knocking on wood as I type), but most days have been tormented by dark clouds. While the heat tells a Fashionista to dress in light and flowing fabrics, the clouds threaten rain and push everyone into rain boots and parkas. However, A. F. Vandevorst’s spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection provided this Fashionista with a stylish way to confront the dismal summer weather! The collection itself is described as the uniform for a beach adventurer of sorts. The golden sand that dusts each outfit brought to mind the stormy voice of Stevie Nicks, and the warm touches of gold that ward of the dark clouds of the incessant, bad weather.
Drawing inspiration directly from look 22, I pulled on a classic black trench coat over a light slip dress. I rolled up the sleeves to dress down a rather formal piece as well as to allow for some ventilation in the thick humidity. Looks such as 10 and 38 accessorized with incredible bold, multilayered necklaces that added some glamor to the classic trench coat. For my gold dust, I accessorized with layered, gold statement necklaces and understated complementary earrings. While boots may keep your feet dry, sandals are perfect for the summer. Some, like my chain-accented heels I got for a steal at T.J.Maxx are durable enough to weather the rain puddles. The designers at A. F. Vandevorst wanted to celebrate their fifteenth anniversary through a greatest hits collection with a taste of the adventurous spirit of summer. Luckily, their reflection on past designs was a cause for novel ideas in my own summer style!
