STYLE GURU STYLE: Go Gingham

Neutrals will always and forever be my favorite trend and staple pieces. Their uniqueness and ability to be paired with each other in abundance makes them incredibly diverse, yet timeless and classy. Although neutrals are appearing on runways everywhere this fall, Jenni Kayne’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection perfectly captures the essence of minimalistic neutrals, simple prints and oversized silhouettes that are perfect for the season.

The collection also features one of my favorite patterns—gingham! Its versatility allows it to be taken right off the runway and straight to street style. Whether it’s a buffalo-check poncho or a button-down top, gingham is sure to bring a fresh twist to any subdued neutral ensemble.

To emulate Jenni Kayne’s collection, I donned my favorite black and white button-down gingham top (a must-have staple for any Fashionista/Fashionista, in my opinion). Because I have an eternal love affair with all things high-waisted, I paired my gingham top with high-waisted, light wash black denim shorts. The neutral nature of the shorts also mirrors the neutral tones of the collection. I also chose my white Converse high-tops to remain in the neutral color palette for this ensemble. This outfit is ideal for running errands or for hitting the books on the first day of school!

Because my outfit doesn’t have a lot of color, I opted to go for both gold and silver jewelry. To top off the look, I’m wearing my favorite pair of round, tortoiseshell sunglasses. And to add some contrast to the look, I’m rocking my new kate spade Cedar Street Monday in mojito mint, giving this ensemble just the right pop of color!

Get My Look: 1. Gingham top. 2. High-waisted denim shorts. 3. White high-tops. 4. Colorful bag.
