STYLE GURU STYLE: Go Full-Length this Fall

Fall is absolutely my favorite season for fashion, and I am excited to share one of my favorite looks. Many celebrities and social media icons including the Kardashian/Jenner family have inspired me lately. Unlike them, I am on a (very small) college budget, so I like to find “dupes” to their expensive pieces. Kim K has been slaying the game with full-length, one-colored dresses, so of course this dress caught my eye. Even though it’s a little looser and more flowy than Kim’s wardrobe, it is definitely a lot more school and work appropriate.

Now can we take a minute to talk about turtlenecks? They are back and better than ever! My mom is somewhere right now rejoicing and taking all her ’90s turtlenecks out of the back of her closet. Before everyone tries on their old turtlenecks, let’s focus on styling turtlenecks the correct way. This dress really didn’t need a lot of help since it is long and stunning by itself. However, a simple pop of color with a cute purse is the perfect way to add some contrast. Not to mention, choosing appropriate shoes helps to balance the turtleneck too. I don’t care that I’m 5’9’’, I still rock heels, so I chose some cute wedges with a peep toe. These shoes aren’t too fancy or too casual and really balances out the length of the dress and the height of the neckline.

Another great thing about this dress is that it can be layered with a functional jacket for the surprise of fall weather. Living in Iowa, we can have rain one day, sunshine the next, and a breezy, chilly day after that. I’m a habitual “bring a jacket” type of girl, so I love pieces that can be easily layered.

Sometimes the most challenging and fun part of my day can be choosing what makeup look I want to do depending upon what I am wearing. I am very comfortable with my makeup skills and therefore love to change it up based on occasion and outfits. I decided this outfit wouldn’t be complete with out a wine-colored lip, which just so happened to perfectly match my jacket and purse (and the photo shoot location, too!). I also took it easy on the bronzer since my summer tan is fading fast. Highlight isn’t going anywhere, though, so I swept some on for a subtle glow. For the “beginner” fall makeup look, try just adding a small pop of orange-red or plum around the eyes.

I loved sharing this fall look, and I hope you love it too. Have a great fall season, and be sure to keep checking back for more style advice and inspiration. Happy fall!
